15 Nov 18 --November Roundtable Meeting

The program for the November Meeting of the Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable will be  "Pocket Watches of the Civil War Era", by Rich Hunt from Cedar Rapids. Rich is one of the founding members of Co. G 24th Iowa  Infantry reenactment group.

The meeting, starting at 7:00 PM, will be held at Veteran's Memorial Hall, 104 West Fifth Street, Waterloo. The hall is located on the west side of Waterloo, between the Cedar River and the parking ramp.

The photo is an artifact from the Confederate submarine Hunley.
It's the restored pocket watch that belonged to Commander Lt. George Dixon. The Hunley website has some interesting information about the watch and many other artifacts found in the Hunley after it was raised in August 2000. Fascinating story...here's the link. 20 Dec 18 --December Roundtable Meeting

The program for the December Meeting of the Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable will be  the annual "Show and Tell" by the membership. members will share recently acquired or collectibles or trips to battlefields and museums or genealogy research of Civil War veterans. 

The meeting, starting at 7:00 PM, will be held at Veteran's Memorial Hall, 104 West Fifth Street, Waterloo. The hall is located on the west side of Waterloo, between the Cedar River and the parking ramp.


17 January 18 --January Roundtable Meeting

The program for the January Meeting of the Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable will be by Roundtable member Ron McLaughlin. Ron will report on his research on George W. Davis, Co. I, 2nd Iowa Cavalry.

Davis enlisted in July 1861 and was mustered out in October 1865. an unusually long term of service. He saw action in several southern states while serving as Col. Washington L Elliot's orderly.

The meeting will start at 7:30 PM, will be held at Windridge, Western Home, 5311 Hyacinth Drive. Cedar Falls


21 Feb 18 --February Roundtable Meeting

The program for the February Meeting of the Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable will be the "Annual Book Review and Media Discussion", facilitated by by  Steve Olsson.

The meeting, starting at 7:00 PM, location pending.


21 March 18 --March Roundtable Meeting

The program for the March Meeting of the Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable will be  "CSA Gen William Mahone" by CVCWRT member, Bill Witt. 

Mahone is best known for regaining the initiative at the siege of Petersburg at the Battle of the Crater. His counter attack turned the engagement into a disastrous Union defeat. 

The meeting, starting at 7:00 PM, will be held at Veteran's Memorial Hall, 104 West Fifth Street, Waterloo. The hall is located on the west side of Waterloo, between the Cedar River and the parking ramp.


11 April 18 --April Roundtable Meeting

The program for the annual April Dinner Meeting of the Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable will be  "Selections from Volume II of Iowa And The Civil War", by Ken Lyftogt.

The meeting, starting with dinner at 5:30 PM, will be held at St. Like's Episcopal Church, 2410 Melrose Drive, Cedar Falls.


16 May 18 --May Roundtable Meeting

The program for the May Meeting of the Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable will be  "The Sultana Disaster", by Mike Morrell of the Quad Cities Roundtable. 

A sidewheel steamboat on the Mississippi, the Sultana's boilers exploded and she burned to the waterline on 27 April 1865. Overloaded with over 2,100 including many Union prisoners of war from Cahaba and Andersonville. 

Their were a total of people killed, making this the worst maritime disaster in US maritime history. The event was overshadowed by Lincoln's assassination and the end of the war.

The meeting, starting at 7:00 PM, will be held at Veteran's Memorial Hall, 104 West Fifth Street, Waterloo. The hall is located on the west side of Waterloo, between the Cedar River and the parking ramp.



20 June 18 --June Roundtable Meeting
